About the museum
Krustpils Castle was first mentioned in the chronicles in 1237 and for several centuries belonged to the Korff family. The castle was repeatedly burned and destroyed in wars, but it was always restored. After extensive reconstruction, visitors can walk through splendid halls and wide corridors, see interior details restored during the renovation and look out over the Daugava landscape from the castle's gate tower.
The Jēkabpils History Museum operates in the castle, offering permanent exhibitions and art exhibitions, thematic tours and educational programmes. Next to the castle, in the old manor granary, there is a visitor centre with a free exhibition on the history of tourism in Jēkabpils, souvenirs and an exhibition on an army detention cell.
