About the museum
The Latvian Museum of Beekeeping History was opened in 1984 and is now run by the Ogre Technical School. It was originally set up on the first floor of the former building of the Beekeeping Experimental Station, while the ground floor housed the school's training apiary and classrooms. The museum was established at the historically oldest site of rational beekeeping in Vecbebri, next to the Beekeeping and Horticulture School at Vecbebri manor, which opened in 1922.
The exhibitions cover bee biology, colony structure, beekeeping technologies and innovations, which are also used in teaching. Educational and practical sessions on the life cycle of bees, the formation of honey and pollination are offered to children and young people. In the museum garden there is a training apiary, where visitors can taste honey with bread and milk and buy beekeeping products.
