About the museum
The museum's origins date back to 1965, when the Jauno lidotāju klubs (Young Pilots' Club) was founded under the direction of the aviation engineer Viktors Talpa. The club gradually accumulated decommissioned aviation equipment, which was used for training and later formed the basis of the collection.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union the club's funding was discontinued, and in 1998–1999 the equipment was moved to the Riga Airport site. The museum has operated as a private institution without state support since 1997; its founder and permanent director is Viktors Talpa.
Later, airport development plans led to a search for a new site, and around 2021–2022 the collection was moved to Skulte, on the other side of the airport, in Mārupe municipality. The exhibition includes around 40 aircraft – fighters, bombers, passenger and transport aircraft and helicopters, among them the Tupolev Tu-22M1, the Mi-6 and the Mi-4. Most of the equipment is displayed outdoors.
