About the museum
The Rūjienas izstāžu zāle (Rūjiena Exhibition Hall) is a place where visitors are welcomed by the hall manager and a town guide, who tell about Rūjiena and its notable personalities and show works by artists from Rūjiena or artists connected with Rūjiena. Sometimes she also speaks in the Rūjiena dialect (rūveniešu valoda) and even sings.
In one of the hall's rooms are portraits of famous film actors drawn by Jānis Vaivars – 109 works in total, with the actors' own autographs. A wooden Lielvārdes josta (Lielvārde belt), made by pupils of the Rūjiena Art School, is also on show.
A special room is the Japan room, which contains gifts from Higashikawa, the twin town of Rūjiena: items needed for the tea ceremony, a kimono, utensils for making mochi and other objects related to Japan. Visitors can strike Japanese drums and play the taishō goto (Japanese zither).
