Stāmerienas pils

About the museum

The first owner of the Stāmerienas pils (Stāmeriena Palace) was Baron Johans Gotlībs II fon Volfs. The palace was built in the first half of the 19th century in Tudor neo-Gothic forms, with an asymmetrically placed square tower and large pointed-arch windows; in the 1870s and 1880s it was rebuilt in the French neo-Renaissance style, with steep roofs and high tower spires.

After the fire caused by the 1905 revolution the palace was restored, its façade enriched with neoclassical and Art Nouveau elements; the eclectic interiors visible today were also created after 1905. In the 1920s and 1930s Aleksandra fon Volfa lived in the palace with her husband, the Italian writer Džuzepe Tomazi di Lampedūza.

The palace houses the collection and exhibition rooms of the Gulbenes novada vēstures un mākslas muzejs (Gulbene Municipality History and Art Museum).
