About the museum
The Liechtensteinische SchatzKammer opened in 2015 as the fourth museum of the Stiftung Liechtensteinisches LandesMuseum and was nominated in 2016 by the European Museum Forum for the title “European Museum of the Year”. In the Städtle of Vaduz, it displays treasures from five centuries and is considered unique in the Alpine region.
One focus is selected pieces from the Princely Collections, including a perpetual calendar made for Emperor Rudolf II around 1600, an armored glove of Emperor Maximilian II from 1571, and a replica of the princely hat for the first Prince of Liechtenstein, Karl I. In addition, there are ceremonial weapons, hunting implements and gifts that the princely house received, for example from Frederick II of Prussia or Emperor Joseph II.
The second focus is the collection of the Liechtenstein native Adulf Peter Goop (1921–2011), which came to the Landesmuseum in 2010 as a donation. It includes one of the largest Easter egg collections in the world, including pieces by Karl Fabergé and Alexander Tillander, as well as 77 gouaches of the “Rheinreise” (Rhine Journey) by Johann Ludwig Bleuler, a selection of which is permanently on display. The SchatzKammer also displays moon rock from the Apollo 11 and Apollo 17 missions and two Liechtenstein flags that traveled to the moon, as thanks for the thin-film coating of the Apollo spacecraft by Balzers AG. The design of the first Liechtenstein postage stamp by Koloman Moser can also be seen here.
