About the museum
Adomynė manor is a rare monument of Romantic classicist wooden architecture and one of the best-preserved wooden manors in Lithuania, entered in the Register of Cultural Property. The manor was built at the beginning of the 18th century, reconstructed at the beginning of the 19th century and restored at the end of the 20th century. Tiled stoves, a bread oven, frescoes, fretwork doors with metal fittings and ornamental parquet floors have survived to the present day.
This is not a typical museum: the collection of old household utensils, printed matter and finds from the surroundings was begun in the last century by activists of the Adomynė community, initiated by the cultural worker Rima Lapienienė. Almost no authentic manor objects remain, so the exhibits are arranged to create the cosy interior of an old house. Among the unique exhibits are the Adomynė “bookbinding workshop”, a small altar and the old priest's ceremonial vestments.
The manor rooms include a veranda, a little museum room, a ladies' salon, a dim hall, a gentlemen's dining room, a “Green” room and the servants' quarters. A local guide tells visitors about the life of the manor's residents. In the park stand functional sculptures created during the folk artists' plein-air sessions, and nearby there are a rifle-shaped pond and a lime avenue. Part of the manor ensemble is the century-old Adomynė Church of the Most Holy Name of Mary, which can be visited by booking a guide. The manor is also famous for the Adomynė “Pagrabinės” buns, which hold a certificate of Lithuania's culinary heritage.
