About the museum
The apartment block on Vytauto prospektas was completed in 1928 with funds from the owners of the “Liteksas” textile factory, Mozė Posvianskis and Giršas Klissas; it was designed by the architect Jokūbas Peras, then 27 years old. The owners lived in the first-floor flats and rented out the others. The building is considered the only Amsterdam School building in Lithuania.
The museum was founded by Karolis Banys and Petras Gaidamavičius; it is their second heritage site opened to the public. In the restored interior of 1920–1940 the museum displays works by Lithuanian artists of the period, tableware, books, furniture made in Lithuania and household appliances. The museum is run by the public institution “Architektūra ir paveldas” (Architecture and Heritage).
