About the museum
The Vaikų literatūros muziejus is a branch of the Maironio lietuvių literatūros muziejus in Kaunas, on K. Donelaičio Street. It is a house where stories hide in every corner, books come to life and fairy-tale characters invite you to play.
In the lobby, visitors are greeted by antique typewriters and a miriorama created by artist Marius Jonutis – a kind of old-fashioned cinema with stories drawn by children. Hanging across a large window is a gate leading into the tale "Daktaras Kripštukas pragare" by Julius Kaupas; in other spaces, a spaceship from Vytautė Žilinskaitė's tale "Kelionė į Tandadriką", the horse Dominykas from the books of Vytautas V. Landsbergis and the wooden Land of Ydos from Vytautas Petkevičius's novella "Gilės nuotykiai Ydų šalyje" await you.
In the basement, the educational space "Būtybių tyrinėtojos kambariai" presents the world of the fictional scientist Emilija Gruodytė, created by writer Kotryna Zylė, and "evidence" of mythical creatures. A narrow staircase leads up to the attic, where creepy tales are read, personal stories are written and Modris Tenisonas is presented – an exceptional person who dared to be different.
