About the museum
The most important period in the history of the Jašiūnai manor began in 1811, when the Balinski family took over the estate. The manor park on the right bank of the Merkys was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century by Andrius Sniadeckis, and the splendid late-classicist palace was begun to a design by Karolis Podčašinskis, professor of architecture at Vilnius University. The manor became a gathering place and residence for the scholars of Vilnius University.
The manor cemetery was established in 1830, on the death of Professor Jonas Sniadeckis; the historian Mykolas Balinskis is also buried there. The cemetery was restored in 2005–2007 and contains about 20 graves.
