About the museum
The Kalvarijos krašto muziejus is housed in a neoclassical building erected in 1829, which belongs to the well-preserved horse post station complex. It is one of only two such complexes in Lithuania, which is why the building is entered in the Register of Cultural Property and protected as an architectural monument.
In the museum, visitors can explore the history, ethnography, traditions and people who shaped and made the region known. Exhibitions, educational sessions, cultural events and guided tours are held here. The museum also houses an information centre where tourists can obtain information about places worth visiting in the region, events and routes. The museum and the information centre are run by the public library of the Kalvarija municipality.
