About the museum
The Kalvystės muziejus (Forge Museum) opened in 1992 in the heart of the Klaipėda Old Town, by the Old Market, next to the forge of Gustavas Kacke (1868–1944), which operated from the late 19th to the first half of the 20th century. It is a branch of the Mažosios Lietuvos istorijos muziejus.
The exhibition shows a decorative door fragment from the Radvilų kriptos (Radziwiłł Crypt) in Königsberg Cathedral, authentic smith's tools, dumplės and žaizdras (smithing tools), forged weather vanes typical of the port city, iron crosses from the late 19th to the first half of the 20th century, and cemetery fences from the old town cemetery, on whose site the Sculpture Park now stands.
In an authentic forge setting, with the help of the museum staff, visitors can make a piece of Baltic-style jewellery.
