About the museum
The museum was established in 2006 in the barn of the Veiveriai church. The idea came from the parish priest Kazimieras Skučas, who loved horses all his life and had been one of the last rimoriai, makers of harnesses for horses. In 2020 the museum moved to a new building, financed by a relative, Milda Skučaitė-Napjus; staff of the Lietuvos nacionalinis muziejus (Lithuanian National Museum) helped to create the exhibition.
This is the only museum of its kind in the country. It displays the whole collection of K. Skučas – saddles, carriages, brikos (britzkas), harness sets, horse collars and the tools for making them – as well as an ethnographic collection of photographs of vehicles from various Lithuanian regions, horse-harnessing methods and decoration.
