About the museum
The building that houses the centre was built in 1705 as the primary school of the Kintai parish; Vilhelmas Storostas-Vydūnas lived and taught there. In 1993, with state funds, the school was restored, and on 19 March 1994, marking the writer’s birthday, the Vydūno muziejus (Vydūnas Museum) was opened in it. One of the most important exhibits is Vydūnas’s harp, which local enthusiasts found in Tallinn in 1988 and brought back to Kintai.
From 2002 the museum was reorganised into the Kintų Vydūno kultūros centras (Kintai Vydūnas Cultural Centre). Here the spreading of the writer’s and philosopher’s ideas continues; events, educational sessions, children’s art and music classes are held, and the Enamel Art Gallery and the exhibition of Curonian Lagoon weather vanes operate.
