About the museum
The museum is housed in the former parish house of Maišiagala and opened in 2013. It is dedicated to commemorating the long-serving parish priest of Maišiagala, the Polish-born prelate Monsignor Juzefas Obrembskis (1906–2011) – one of the oldest and longest-serving Catholic priests in Lithuania and Europe, who spent half of his life in Maišiagala.
The priest, known as the “patriarch of the Vilnius region”, died on 7 June 2011 at the age of 105. The Vilnius District Municipality carried out his last wish: that his house become a place of remembrance for priests and nuns who were persecuted or who gave their lives for their faith.
The museum presents an exhibition on Monsignor J. Obrembskis with his personal belongings, photographs and liturgical objects. Exhibitions on other eminent figures of the Church are held, together with educational sessions and meetings; once a week free sessions on the priest's life are held for children and young people, and every year commemorations are held on 19 March, the priest's name day.
