About the museum
The Nacionalinė dailės galerija is a branch of the Lietuvos nacionalinis dailės muziejus (Lithuanian National Museum of Art) in Vilnius, on Konstitucijos prospektas. Until its reconstruction, the gallery was housed in a building of contemporary architecture designed by the architects Gediminas Baravykas and Vytautas Vielius, built in 1980. The building was reconstructed in 2004–2009 to a design by the architects Audrius Bučas, Darius Čaplinskas and Gintaras Kuginis.
The gallery presents Lithuanian and foreign art of the 20th and 21st centuries. In the long-term exhibition visitors get to know modern and contemporary Lithuanian painting, sculpture, graphic art, photography, objects, installations and video art. The collection presents the periods from the early 20th century, when Vilnius was the main centre of artistic life, to the present day.
Temporary exhibitions in the exhibition halls present Lithuanian and foreign art. The event hall hosts conferences, lectures, cultural evenings and screenings of films about artists. The gallery houses an art information centre with a library, a bookshop, a café and the restaurant “The Gallery”. Educational sessions and creative workshops are held for visitors of different ages and with special needs.
