About the museum
The Pinigų muziejus is the museum of the Bank of Lithuania, located in central Vilnius at the corner of Gedimino prospektas and Totorių gatvė. Its permanent exhibition opened on 21 December 2010 and occupies 260 sq m. The exhibition is adapted for visitors of all ages, including people with disabilities.
Five halls – Pinigų istorijos, Bankininkystės istorijos, Šiuolaikinių pinigų, Lietuvos pinigų and Parodų ir edukacijos – tell the story of means of exchange, from grain, furs and amber to digital money. The presentation uses interactive technology: terminals with films, games and virtual exhibitions, and video, sound and light effects. The main information is provided in Lithuanian and English, and a multilingual audio guide system is available. The Bank of Lithuania's building in Kaunas houses a separate exhibition on the history of the bank and of money.
