About the museum
The Valstybės pažinimo centras (Centre for Understanding the State) in the Presidential Palace complex in Vilnius opened on 10 March 2016. It is run by the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Lithuania. The centre was created as an interactive educational space where visitors can understand how a democratic state and its institutions work, and how citizens can take part in shaping and governing the country and in solving community problems.
The permanent exhibition occupies three floors. It covers the foundations of the state – territory, population and institutions – the changing concept of citizenship, and citizens' rights and duties. The exhibition is divided into five parts, each dedicated to one freedom: to participate, to agree, to know and be yourself, to decide and act, to cooperate. Visitors can choose the topics that interest them and go round independently, using interactive panels and more than seven hundred QR codes.
The centre also hosts thematic exhibitions on state symbols and important historical events, educational programmes for pupils and teachers, tasks for families and tours of the Presidential Palace.
