About the museum
The Salomėjos Nėries ir Bernardo Bučo namai-muziejus is located in a villa-like house set against the background of a dark forest, which the newly married poet Salomėja Nėris and the architect Bernardas Bučas built for themselves. Friends described it as an original, stylish and well-considered house; distinguished guests, friends and relatives visited it.
In the spacious hall, once Bernardas Bučas's sculpture studio, a literary exhibition has been set up on the life and creative path of Salomėja Nėris. The information is presented on modern stands whose photographs change; there is a terminal with archival videos and photographs, and poems read by the actress Rūta Staliliūnaitė can be heard. Authentic memorial objects are on display, and four memorial rooms have been recreated.
The museum is a branch of the Maironio lietuvių literatūros muziejus (Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature); it holds educational sessions, for example on creating a model of the architect Bučas's house.
