About the museum
The Adelės ir Pauliaus Galaunių namai-muziejus (Adelė and Paulius Galaunė House Museum) opened in 1996 in Kaunas, on Vydūno Avenue. The opera singer Adelė Galaunienė and the teacher, art historian and collector Paulius Galaunė lived here and built up their collections. Paulius Galaunė collected works of art, so the museum shows many graphic works he gathered, as well as folk art objects and rare books.
The house is a branch of the Nacionalinis M. K. Čiurlionio dailės muziejus. It preserves the cultural heritage of the Galaunė family, which Paulius Galaunė's wife, Kazimiera Galaunienė (1924–2016), planned and carried out to keep in one place. For her centenary, in 2024 a new biographical exhibition was opened, presenting more than 150 photographs, manuscripts and personal belongings.
The museum also has a memorial exhibition on the Galaunė family, dedicated also to the memory of Kazys Bizauskas, a signatory of the Act of Independence.
