About the museum
The Vilkaviškio krašto muziejus was founded in 1963, while local history groups had been active since 1958. In 1965 the museum moved into a House of Culture; in 1990 it received state museum status, and in 1997 it moved to Paežeriai, into the former outbuilding (oficina) of the manor palace. The founder is the Vilkaviškio rajono savivaldybė (Vilkaviškis District Municipality).
The exhibitions present the region's nature, ethnocultural objects, a Sūduva farmer's parlour (seklyčia), the Signatarų salė (Hall of Signatories) and the history of the region's emigrants. The manor palace in Paežeriai houses the Vilkaviškio rajono Suvalkijos (Sūduvos) kultūros centras-muziejus, of which the Vilkaviškio krašto muziejus is a branch.
