About the museum

The Bulvės muziejus (Potato Museum) in Kudirkos Naumiestis was founded by agronomist Jonas Valaitis. He settled in a renovated old pumping station building, in which the history of potato growing from ancient times is exhibited.

The exhibition shows not modern but old farming tools: horse harnesses, harrows and about 300 different horseshoes. On the first floor of the building there is a viewing platform with views of the countryside, and in a special cellar tastings of different potato varieties take place.

A potato cannon stands in front of the museum, and the museum tower houses a four-bell carillon that is played by means of potatoes. In the courtyard grows a presidential oak planted during a potato festival. In the nearby café “Pas Mindaugą” cepelinai (Lithuanian potato dumplings) are made according to the recipe of Alma Adamkienė.
