Mineralogisch Museum

Mineral museum in a converted farm barn between Grou and Warten, with more than 40 display cases full of crystals and gemstones.

Opening hoursAdmission €3.50 Wheelchair accessible

About the museum

The Mineralogisch Museum is tucked away among trees on the road between Grou and Warten. It is housed in the large barn of a former farm. In the former stable, winding passages lead past display cases; on the old hayloft there are seats and a small classroom, and on the upper floor changing exhibitions.

More than 40 display cases show rock crystal, amethyst, pyrite and sulfur, along with desert roses, dendrites, geodes, petrified wood, meteorites and erratic boulders. A separate section presents gemstones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and aquamarines, in rough and cut form, some set in gold or silver. In two cases, fluorescent minerals glow violet, red, yellow or green under ultraviolet light.

Besides the museum operations, the operators offer lectures for clubs, courses on minerals, rocks and general geology, and geological excursions, for example to the Eifel, the Ardennes and the Nördlinger Ries. The small shop sells raw and polished minerals as well as jewelry. The museum is open only in summer.
