About the museum
Aker sykehusmuseum shows objects, pictures and descriptions from the history of Aker sykehus over more than 200 years. From 1794 the hospital was located at various sites in the former Aker herred (Aker municipality), and in 1895 it was given its present location at Tonsen gård in Trondheimsveien. During the 1900s the hospital grew into one of the country's largest, and from 2010 it has been part of Oslo universitetssykehus (Oslo University Hospital).
The museum was established in 1995 and has exhibitions in protected buildings on the hospital grounds, at building 62 on Tonsen gård. It is run by a museum group of retired hospital staff and other volunteers.
