About the museum
Tryllemuseet presents itself as Norway's only museum of the history of magic. It opened on 9 December 2001 as Norsk Tryllemuseum in Munkedamsveien in Oslo, and after several moves and many years in storage it reopened at Årvoll farm on 1 December 2024. Volunteers kept the museum alive in the meantime.
The museum is a non-profit association run mainly by volunteers and is affiliated with Den Magiske Ring and Magiske Cirkel Norge. Its purpose is to collect, preserve and convey objects, documents and knowledge about the history of magic in Norway and internationally.
In the barn at Årvoll farm the exhibition on the golden age of magic is shown, with wall panels on, among others, Robert-Houdin, Herrmann, Kellar, Thurston and Houdini. The museum also shows objects from the collection and tells the story of magicians' associations, and there is a shop with books and props. On the website, historical articles, recordings and biographies of magicians are gathered.
