About the museum
Linderud gård in Bjerke in Oslo has roots going back to the Middle Ages, when the farm was church and crown property. Mogens Lauritssøn bought the farm in 1679, and in 1713 his son Erich Mogenssøn had the main building erected. The farm stayed in the Monsen–Mathiesen family for over 300 years.
After State Councillor Mathiesen died in 1953, the farm was given heritage protection. The main building houses the art and furniture collection De Mathiesenske Samlinger, which can be seen on a guided tour. The collection also documents life on the farm around 1880–1930 through more than a thousand digitised photographs.
Since 2007, MiA – Museene i Akershus has run Linderud gård as a museum. The garden includes elements from the Renaissance, the Baroque, the English landscape style and Functionalism, and it is open to the public every day of the year. The grounds also have a neighbourhood garden and an activity park.
