About the museum
Chateauet in Molde is a property with a mansion from 1918, which Riksantikvaren (the Directorate for Cultural Heritage) protected on 12 February 2003. The property is part of Molde’s “grønne allé” (green avenue), a green corridor from the garden towards the town. Romsdalsmuseet took it over from Molde municipality on 1 January 2004.
The restoration of the house and garden began in 2007, and the property opened to the public in 2009. The house has been returned to how it was in 1935, and the garden has been replanted with almost all the plants from the original planting in the years 1918–1920.
The Chateauhagen (the Chateau garden) is open all year and has its own outdoor exhibition with signs on the history of the garden. Chateauet is also the venue for several of the museum’s events during the year.
