About the museum
Ergan coastal fort was built by the Germans between 1941 and 1945 and was called “Festung Bud”. The facility was part of the Atlantic Wall, and Norway had 293 coastal forts in all. The fort was later restored and is today a war history museum.
Inside the mountain there are, among other things, an operating room, a command centre and barracks, and the exhibitions show weapons, equipment, technical installations and personal belongings. The guided tour goes through two of the bunkers.
Bud coastal museum (Bud kystmuseum) is in the same area and is part of Romsdalsmuseet. The Kystkultursenteret (coastal culture centre) tells the story of life along the coast from the Stone Age until the development of the Ormen Lange field, with fishing equipment, local boats, boatbuilding and maritime archaeology from Hustadvika. A separate exhibition deals with the Brødrene Brunvoll motor workshop, which laid the foundation for the boat engine industry in Romsdal.
