About the museum
Løvikremma is one of Romsdal's traditional coastal farms (kystgarder) and lies on Gossen in Aukra, with a view northwards towards the open sea and the fishing villages of Bjørnsund and Bud. The farm was given as a gift to Romsdalsmuseet in 1987 and today consists of a farmhouse (våningshus), a storehouse (stabbur) and a turf shed (torvskjå). The museum also has the use of the cowshed, which is privately owned.
The farmhouse was built after the old house burned down around 1860. It is a typical one-and-a-half-storey house with a central passage plan, and the furniture and equipment stand roughly as they did when the last residents lived there. The farm's livelihoods were farming and fishing, and turf from the moors in the outlying land was stored in the turf shed and in the svale (the open gallery).
During the Second World War, around 700 people on Gossen had to leave their homes. In autumn 1942 the family at Løvikremma moved to Nerbø, and the Germans took over the farm. The barn (løa) was converted into an assembly hall with a cinema screen. In the summer season, volunteers from Aukra act as hosts on the farm and welcome visitors with refreshments and a talk about old working life.
