About the museum
Drammens Museum is a foundation from 1996 and functions as the county museum and gallery for Buskerud, with art and cultural history as its main areas. The main site lies at Marienlyst in Drammen, where a neoclassical park surrounds the Arbo building, the Lyche Pavilion (Lychepaviljongen) and Gamle Marienlyst, a country estate with a historic garden. The grounds also include Hallingtunet, an open-air museum with buildings from Hallingdal.
The museum also manages Gulskogen farm, a listed country estate with a garden from the late 18th century, Austad farm from the early 19th century, and an open-air museum on Bragernesåsen with farm buildings from all over Buskerud. At Gulskogen, peacocks roam freely in the garden.
The collections cover art, design and crafts, silver, glass and faience, folk art, church art, furniture and interiors. Particularly well known is the large collection of Nøstetangen glass, Baroque silver and faience from Drammen in the 18th century. The Lyche Pavilion, with its permanent gallery and Japanese garden, is closed for upgrading, and the museum is planning its reopening.
