About the museum

Ekebergparken has been a public park since 1889, and the area has a cultural history that reaches back as far as 10,000 years BC. Today the park is a public sculpture park of 255 mål (an old Norwegian unit of area) on Ekebergåsen, with views over Oslo and the Oslofjord. The sculpture park opened on 26 September 2013 and is the result of a collaboration between Oslo municipality and C. Ludens Ringnes Stiftelse, which has operational responsibility for 50 years.

The art collection consists of 49 sculptures and installations by 45 artists, with works from the 19th century, the 20th century and the present day. Among the artists are Auguste Rodin, Salvador Dalí, Louise Bourgeois, James Turrell, Yinka Shonibare, Marina Abramović and Elmgreen & Dragset. Many of the works have been made specially for the park, and new works are added every year after selection by an art-expert panel.

The Ekebergparken museum and shop are housed in the protected Lunds-villaen from the late 19th century. There are exhibitions there on the natural and cultural history of the park and of Ekeberg, and visitors can buy maps and guidebooks. James Turrell's light installations Ganzfeld and Skyspace are open on Sundays with free guided tours.
