About the museum
Follo museum is an open-air museum in Drøbak that shows the history and culture of Follo through the ages. The museum consists of historic farms, old buildings and exhibitions that give insight into rural life, traditional craftsmanship and the development of the local community from the 1600s to the present. It is part of MiA – Museene i Akershus.
On the open-air museum stand, among other buildings, the coaching inn (skysstasjonen) Korsegården, Gamle Holstad skole (the old Holstad school), the farmhouse at Børsum from 1747 and Drengestua. Visitors can also experience Seiersten skanse (the Seiersten battery), a fortification from the late 1800s that was built as a flank defence for Oscarsborg fortress, with a view over the Oslofjord. The open-air museum has free access around the clock, and an audio guide in several languages can be opened with a QR code. To enter the houses you must book a guided tour.
In the main house by the café, the exhibition “Labo – 700 år i en jordhaug” (Labo – 700 years in an earth mound) shows the finds from the trading place Labo, which local sixth-graders have excavated over almost 20 years. The museum also offers lectures, courses in traditional crafts, market days and activities for children, and guided walks through Drøbak, the “trehusbyen” (wooden-house town) and the “kunstnerbyen” (artists’ town).
