About the museum
Grytøy bygdetun lies at Lundenes on Grytøy and is run by Sør-Troms Museum. As early as 1932 the site was proposed for protection because of the unusual two-family house (tomannsbolig), which was built in 1770 and 1826.
The main house has 26 furnished rooms, a war exhibition, a weapons collection, a shoemaker's workshop, instruments and interiors from different periods. A prehistoric exhibition shows local finds from the Stone Age and the Viking Age, and the museum has over 4,000 objects from coastal culture. On the farmyard there is also a storehouse (stabbur) and a cowshed (fjøs), and by the sea there is a machine house with old engines, a boathouse (naust) with historical boats and a rorbu (fishermen's cabin).
