About the museum
Hardangervidda nasjonalparksenter at Skinnarbu opened in 2013 and is the only state-authorised centre for Hardangervidda National Park. The centre lies in the middle of the national park and is the starting point for experiences, knowledge and nature interpretation on the plateau (vidda).
The 600-square-metre exhibition has 22 interactive installations across seven sections. They deal with the biology of wild reindeer, its migration routes going back thousands of years, and people's lives on the plateau. The exhibition has won three international awards.
As an authorised visitor centre, the centre has a particular responsibility for nature interpretation and offers guided exhibition tours, insect courses, nature guidance for schools and groups, and walks in the nature around Skinnarbu. Visitors can get trail maps and up-to-date information about conditions on the plateau. The centre is certified as a Miljøfyrtårn (Environmental Lighthouse).
