About the museum
Krambuvika bygdemuseum is by the sea at Soløy, the former municipal centre of Lavangen. Krambuvika bygdemuseumslag (Krambuvika Local Museum Association) gathered houses and objects that have meant a great deal to the identity and history of Lavangen and Northern Norway, and the museum is today a department of Sør-Troms Museum.
The main building is a boathouse (naust) with a café, a nostalgic general store (krambu) and a shoemaker's workshop. In addition there is a net house (nothus) with maritime equipment, Jennystua with an interior exhibition showing building traditions from the 19th century, a small storehouse (stabbur), a boathouse with several older types of boat, and Bårstua with a comprehensive war exhibition. At the entrance stands a milk collection stand (melkerampe) from the 1960s, a reminder that around 200 dairy farmers ran farms in Lavangen in the 1950s, while no one produces cow's or goat's milk there today.
