About the museum
Troms Forsvarsmuseum is located at Setermoen in Bardu and is part of Midt-Troms Museum. The museum is devoted to the military history of Troms, with particular emphasis on the Army (Hæren). Key themes are the battles for Narvik in 1940 and the Second World War. The museum also has exhibitions on international operations under UN auspices in the period 1947–2014.
The exhibition rooms include a quiet room decorated by the artist Alvin Jensvoll, dedicated to the human tragedies that follow in the wake of war. Outside stands a vehicle park with military historical vehicles from the Second World War, the Tysklandsbrigadene (the Norwegian brigades in Germany) and the Brigade in Northern Norway. The largest armoured vehicles are displayed outdoors, while the smaller and lighter vehicles can be visited in the museum's garages by appointment.
The museum is open Tuesday to Thursday and welcomes groups and school classes on request.
