About the museum
Nils Aas Kunstverksted lies at Straumen in Inderøy, close to the childhood home of the sculptor Nils Aas. Aas was born on 21 April 1933 in Inderøy and died on 9 February 2004 in Oslo. He is regarded as one of Norway's most important sculptors and was a leading artist of his generation.
The art workshop opened in 1996 and is at the same time a museum for Nils Aas, a space for changing exhibitions of Nordic contemporary art, and an active workshop. The permanent exhibition “Nils Aas – Liv og virke” consists of sculptures, drawings and reliefs that together tell the story of the artist's life and work.
In the centre of Straumen, right next to the art workshop, lies Muustrøparken, the millennium site of Inderøy municipality. Here twelve sculptures by Nils Aas stand in a setting with old sights such as Muusbrua from 1816 and Ringstu. The art workshop also runs an open workshop for children and young people, school programmes and a museum shop, and is part of Den Gyldne Omvei.
