About the museum
Bærums Verk has a history stretching back over 400 years. The first smelting huts were built in 1610, and the site has since gone through floods, fire, restructuring and development. Today it is a trading place with shops, galleries and restaurants in the old works buildings.
The Ovnsmuseet (Stove Museum) is housed in the old foundry building and shows a large collection of cast-iron stoves that were cast at Bærums Jernverk (Bærums Ironworks) over around 250 years, together with some older objects. The stoves date back to the 18th century and tell of the works' production and of how homes were heated in earlier times.
The museum is shown on a guided historical walk of about one hour. The guide tells of the history of Bærums Verk and of people who have been connected with the place, and the walk ends at the stove museum.
