About the museum
Rennebu Bygdemuseum consists of several museum sites around the district, with the farm museum Rennebu Bygdetun at Haugen as its main site. Haugen lies on the west side of the Orkla river at Voll and was probably cleared before 1300. The farm was deserted after the Black Death but is mentioned again in 1590. The last people to run it were the siblings Anna and Arnt Haugen, and Rennebu Historielag bought the farm in the early 1950s. The farm museum opened on 4 July 1965.
On the farmyard stand the stue (main living room), a threshing barn, a cowshed with hayloft, a stable and two storehouses (stabbur), and the two buildings, the smithy and Nybrostuggu, have been moved to the farm. The collection shows agricultural and craft tools, folk costumes, household utensils, furniture and handicrafts. The farm complex itself gives an impression of how farming was carried out in the past.
Also part of the museum is the shop museum “Gammelbua på Voll”, which was the consumer cooperative's shop from 1871 to 1970 and has preserved goods and documents, and Nerskogsmuseet, a seter area at Nerskogen with houses from old seter hamlets, which opened in 1992. At Voll there is also a small school museum with no fixed opening hours. Rennebu Historielag supports the museum and is, among other things, behind Bygdetundagen in June.
