About the museum
Meldal bygdemuseum (Meldal rural museum) is based on the collection of doctor Eilert Støren, who came to Meldal in 1889 and was deeply interested in the district’s history and culture. When Støren died, Meldal municipality bought the collections and began building up the rural museum in 1931. All the houses in the open-air museum come from Meldal.
The museum lies in Bergslia on the hill above the district and is today part of Orkla Industrimuseum (Orkla Industrial Museum), which in turn belongs to Museene i Sør-Trøndelag (the Museums of South Trøndelag).
