About the museum
Sæbøtunet lies in the centre of Etne municipality and is the old farmyard of one of the oldest farms in the district. It is considered the largest authentic museum farmyard in Sunnhordland. The eight buildings in the yard are furnished with furniture, work tools and textiles from the 18th and 19th centuries and show social conditions, building customs and crafts of the period.
The farmyard was thoroughly restored in 2016. In the former manure shed a small amphitheatre has been built, Forteljarskuten, which kindergartens, schools and local groups use a lot. Sæbøtunet is part of Sunnhordland museum, which preserves the history of the municipalities in the region.
