Vindafjordmuseet

Rural heritage farmstead (bygdetun) in Vikedal with a smoke house, telegraph station and collections on shipbuilding, crafts and the NATO facility at Lysenuten.

Opening hoursAdmission NOK 100

About the museum

Vindafjordmuseet in Vikedal is laid out as a bygdetun (rural heritage farmstead) with a røykstove (smoke house), stabbur (storehouse), kvernhus (mill house), steinhoggarbu (stonemason's hut) and a farm building. The farmstead also has the municipality's last telegraph station, one of the few preserved in the district.

The museum emphasises local craft and business history, especially the traditions linked to shipbuilding. The collection holds objects from working and everyday life and models of sailing ships from the shipyard era. A separate exhibition tells the story of the NATO facility at Lysenuten from the Cold War.

Visitors can take part in activities such as weaving on a stolvev (frame loom) and nature weaving, making dreamcatchers, shooting with bow and arrow, walking on stilts and solving rebus trails. The museum also includes the school museum in Skjold, in the old Ersland schoolroom, which is open in connection with school visits and events. Vindafjordmuseet is part of Haugalandmuseet.
