About the museum
Sivert Aarflot was a farmer’s son with only 22 days of schooling who became one of the leading popular educators in Nordvestlandet. His thirst for knowledge was great and ranged from practical farming to theoretical astronomy, and that knowledge was to be passed on. He became a teacher and lensmann (rural police chief), and he founded a library, a printing press and the newspaper Norsk Landboeblad.
The newspaper still comes out in Volda, today under the name Møre. The museum is located at Ekset in Volda kommune, where Aarflot lived and ran his printing press, and tells the story of this pioneer and popular educator.
The museum is housed in an older building and is run by Viti. In summer, visitors can test their knowledge in a special quiz in the museum.
