Opening hoursAdmission NOK 155 Wheelchair accessible Restaurant

About the museum

ViteMeir opened in November 2021 in Kaupanger in Sogndal municipality. The centre is one of thirteen regional science centres in Norway and aims to spark interest in science, technology and sustainability among children and young people in Sogn og Fjordane. Any surplus goes back into the work, and the aim is also to contribute to recruitment to subjects Norway needs.

The centre is run as a non-profit company. Its largest owners are Vestland County Council (Vestland fylkeskommune) and Sogndal municipality, and several other municipalities, organisations and institutions hold smaller shares. The building is mostly made of timber and was built with local companies.

The exhibition runs over three floors and is laid out as a journey from the bottom of the Sognefjord to the top of Galdhøpiggen. Alongside the exhibition, the centre offers learning programmes for kindergartens and schools, science shows, courses and children's birthday parties.

  • Energy and sustainable travel with a wind turbine
