About the museum
Vitensenteret i Trondheim (the Science Centre in Trondheim) has worked since 9 March 1988 to increase interest in and understanding of science subjects among children and young people of all ages. It is run as a non-profit foundation and is one of several regional science centres in Norway, with government grants for its operation. The aim is to awaken a love of learning and curiosity in science, research and technology, and to motivate more people to choose studies and careers in the field.
The centre is a venue at the intersection of school and leisure. Visitors explore mathematics, natural science and technology by feeling, building, smelling and experimenting in the interactive exhibition at Kongens gate 1 by Torvet. The centre also offers science shows, workshops, activities and teaching programmes at the centre and at schools in the Trondheim region.
At weekends and during holidays, films and shows are presented in Norway’s only 360° planetarium, and admission to the planetarium is included in the ticket. The science centre is a member of Vitensenterforeningen and of the European network Ecsite, and plans are being made for a new science centre at Nyhavna.
