About the museum
PoMo is housed in Postgården, an Art Nouveau (jugendstil) building from 1911 designed by the architect Karl Norum, which was formerly Trondheim’s main post office. The idea comes from Monica and Ole Robert Reitan, who have long been passionate about visual art and wanted to create a museum of world class in their home city. The museum is located in a new cultural quarter next to Nye Hjorten Teater and Britannia Hotel.
PoMo aims to be an inclusive and accessible museum that also appeals to those who have never visited an art museum. The collection is to be internationally recognised and independent, and to reflect a broad range of artists regardless of gender and background. It is supplemented by two annual exhibitions with major international loans, many of which are shown for the first time in Norway.
The collection, called the PoMo Collection, includes works by, among others, Louise Bourgeois, Ugo Rondinone, Anne Imhof, Simone Leigh, Sol LeWitt and Fischli & Weiss. The museum also has a rich events programme, activities for children and young people, a museum shop and a reading room (lesestue).
