About the museum
The Centrum Nowoczesności Młyn Wiedzy (Modern Knowledge Mill Centre) is a municipal cultural institution of the Gmina Miasta Toruń, established in November 2010. It received its present name in February 2012, after a naming competition. The first science centre in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship was opened on 9 November 2013 in the restored buildings of the former Richter Mills at ul. Władysława Łokietka 5.
The historic mills, from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, have been adapted for interactive exhibitions, studios and workshop rooms. The building has about 5,000 m² of floor space on six storeys. The centre’s showpiece is a Foucault pendulum with a 35-kilogram ball suspended on a 33-metre line.
The centre presents permanent exhibitions, including “O Obrotach” (On Rotations), “IDEE” (Ideas) and “…To takie proste!” (It’s That Simple!), as well as temporary exhibitions. The exhibition “Rzeka” (River) is being rebuilt into a new exhibition, “Na Fali” (On the Wave), planned for December 2026. The centre runs workshops, thematic studios and an offer for school groups; in 2018 it was a laureate of the “Popularyzator Nauki” (Popularizer of Science) competition in the institutions category.
