About the museum
The Muzeum Twierdzy Toruń (Toruń Fortress Museum) opened on 11 June 2021 as the youngest branch of the Muzeum Okręgowe w Toruniu. It occupies former 19th-century barracks at Brama Chełmińska, which belonged to the Prussian system of fortifications of the city.
The permanent exhibition presents the history of Toruń’s fortifications from the Middle Ages to the end of the Second World War. The story is arranged chronologically, and each room is devoted to a single theme. Visitors see boards, models, dioramas and multimedia stations, and the exhibits include a mobile armoured turret and the weapons of former soldiers.
The visit also covers outer elements of the former defence system: an artillery battery and a rampart road. The museum offers guided tours and educational trails prepared for families with children.
