About the museum
Jakub Böhme (1575–1624), a shoemaker, mystic and theosopher, lived in Görlitz and bought the house in the Przedmieście Nyskie (Nysa Suburb), in today's Zgorzelec, on 21 August 1599. He lived there for eleven years, until 1610. His second house, located by the Old Town Bridge, was demolished in 1905 during the construction of a new bridge.
The damaged building was rebuilt in 1870–1871. It now houses a small permanent exhibition, the so-called Izba Jakuba Böhme (Jakub Böhme Room), devoted to the life and work of the philosopher, as well as a tourist information point for Zgorzelec.
The house is one of the stops on the Szlak śladami Jakuba Böhme (Trail in the Footsteps of Jakub Böhme), which runs through Zgorzelec and Görlitz.
