About the museum
The Muzeum Łużyckie w Zgorzelcu (Lusatian Museum in Zgorzelec) was established on the initiative of the town authorities, who in 2003 handed over the tenement house at ul. Daszyńskiego 15 as its seat. The building needed a thorough renovation, carried out as part of the revitalisation of the Nysa Suburb (Przedmieście Nyskie) and completed in 2007, after which the institution began its activity.
The museum is regional in character: it documents and researches the history, culture and everyday life of the inhabitants of the Polish part of Upper Lusatia, especially Zgorzelec and the Zgorzelec County. The collections range from archaeological finds to sources on the history of the town in the second half of the 20th century.
The permanent exhibition opened in 2010. It presents the interior of a Lusatian cottage from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a reconstructed wall of post-frame construction, as well as furniture and everyday objects. The museum also carries out archaeological research and organises temporary exhibitions and educational activities.
